Surrender Is the Only Way Forward

“Not my will, but Yours be done.” — Luke 22:42 (ESV)

Let’s be honest — most of us want God’s peace, but not His boundaries.

We want the purpose, but not the pruning.

We want the fruit, but not the fence.

But here’s the truth:

You’ll crash without the gate.

I say that from experience — not judgment.

There was a season in my life where I fully believed in God…

but I was still doing things my way.

I called Him Lord but lived like I was in charge.

I said I wanted breakthrough, but I refused to surrender the stuff I was still gripping in the dark.

And slowly — then suddenly — I started spinning out.

Because you can’t stay on track if you ignore the One who built the road.

Jesus said it clearly in Luke 22:42:

“Not my will, but Yours be done.”

That’s the gate.

That’s the turning point.

That’s the prayer that changes everything.

Surrender is the gate.

And not just surrender of your plans — but your past, your present, and your future.

You’ve got to surrender the shame.

Surrender the habits.

Surrender your own logic and timelines.

Surrender the need to figure it all out yourself.

God isn’t just calling you to avoid sin.

He’s calling you to walk into something better —

a life you can’t imagine on your own.

The enemy would love for you to believe that submission to God means limitation.

But it’s actually the beginning of freedom.

You weren’t designed to carry the weight of running your own life.

You weren’t built to be your own savior.

And deep down, you know that.

Some of us are crashing in slow motion right now…

feeling the effects of a divided heart, a life lived halfway in.

But there’s good news:

The gate is still open.

And surrender is still possible.

So today’s the day to stop saying “My will” and start saying “Yours, Lord.”

Not just with your words — with your decisions.

With your relationships.

With your next move.

With your future.

You can’t fully walk in purpose if you’re still clinging to control.

But when you finally let go —

when you surrender your past, your pain, your plans…

you’ll find out that what He has for you is so much better than anything you were chasing.

You just have to walk through the gate.

Truth to Hold Today:

God doesn’t want part of you.

He wants all of you — past, present, and future.

Because the life He has for you is greater than anything you can build on your own.

Reflection

  1. What are you still trying to control that God is asking you to surrender?
  2. Have you truly let go of your past — or are you still carrying shame He already covered?
  3. What scares you most about surrendering fully — and what might change if you did?

Pray with us…

Jesus, I’ve been holding on to things You already asked me to lay down. I surrender my past — the guilt, the pride, the regret. I surrender my present — every area I’ve tried to control. And I surrender my future — trusting that Your way is better than mine. Help me walk through the gate. Not my will. But Yours. In Your name, amen.

Love you guys.

Don’t crash holding the wheel God already offered to carry.

Surrender isn’t weakness — it’s where your freedom begins.
